On The Issues
Born and raised in rural Kansas, Senator Jerry Moran understands the meaning of a hard day’s work and the importance of Kansas values - God, country, family, and freedom. Jerry holds these values near and dear to his heart and continues to rely on them.
Jerry breaks through the dysfunction in Washington, D.C. and delivers lasting results for Kansans. As a bipartisan leader in the U.S. Senate, Jerry had the third most bills signed into law last Congress and was ranked as one of the most effective U.S. Senators by the Center for Effective Lawmaking.
Joe Biden's inflation is the worst in forty years. And it’s costing Americans more money every day. A new study shows that the average American family will now pay over $3,000 more this year -- just because of inflation. Jerry is fighting to help Kansas families with common-sense solutions. Food, gas, mortgages – it all costs too much. It’s breaking our budgets and destroying our economy.
Jerry knows that partisan politics will never lower your grocery bill. But common sense solutions can put us on the road to recovery – stop the wasteful spending, unleash American energy and rebuild our manufacturing base.
As the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Jerry worked with President Trump and President Biden to lead significant legislative accomplishments to care for our nation’s veterans – from community care to mental health care to adaptive housing to the PACT Act.
This summer, Jerry introduced, advocated for, and worked across the aisle to pass the PACT Act so that all-generations of veterans who were exposed to burn pits receive the care and benefits they deserve.
Joe Biden's decision to drain our emergency oil supply – already at its lowest level in four decades – is a short-sighted and dangerous choice that endangers our energy security at a critical time of global uncertainty.
It is time to unleash American energy production in order to lower prices, support American jobs and decrease our reliance on foreign adversaries for our energy. Jerry supports an all-of-the-above energy strategy that utilizes domestic sources of oil, natural gas and coal; renewable energy sources like biofuels, wind, solar, geothermal and hydropower; and the use of nuclear energy.
Our nation has the ability to be energy independent again, and Kansas has a role to play in accomplishing that mission.
Jerry has fought against the “defund the police” movement and acted to provide law enforcement a pay raise and the tools they need to protect our communities. As the top Republican on the committee that funds the Department of Justice, Jerry has led the charge to back the blue and defend our first responders.
There’s no truer saying than “farmers feed the world.” As a lifelong Kansan, Jerry understands the importance of our agriculture industry. That’s why he’s helped write farm bills that support our farmers, ranchers, and producers.
Jerry will always advocate for the farmers, ranchers, and producers who make up our Kansas agriculture industry.
Throughout his entire career in public service, Jerry has used his voice and his vote to defend the unborn and protect life at all stages. Jerry was instrumental in electing a Republican Senate majority that went on to confirm hundreds of federal judges and multiple Supreme Court justices who respect the Constitution and every American’s inherent right to life. He is proudly endorsed by Kansans For Life PAC, the leading pro-life grassroots organization in the state.
Now, Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress are determined to remove the longstanding Hyde Amendment and use taxpayer dollars to fund abortions in the United States and abroad. Jerry opposes any attempt by Washington politicians to use American tax dollars on abortion and will continue to fight for the rights of the unborn.
We have a humanitarian, public health and national security crisis happening at our Southern border. As the lead Republican of the committee that provides resources to the Department of Justice, Jerry has visited the southern border on multiple occasions to hear from law enforcement on the ground and witness the humanitarian and national security crisis.
Joe Biden continues to be absent in this crisis. We must prioritize additional border security measures that include a physical barrier and investment in new technology. We must also enforce our immigration laws and work to reform our immigration system so we reward those that follow the law and disincentive illegal crossing.
Jerry makes it a priority to return home each week to listen and connect with Kansans. Traveling nearly 200,000 miles across Kansas since 2017, Jerry won the Senate MVP Award by Town Hall Project for holding more town halls than any other U.S. Senator.
